Julie Johnson is a visual artist and sculptor. She grew up in southwest Michigan near Lake Michigan and her work has been deeply influenced by the natural and cultural landscapes of that area.
Julie's formal pieces, installations and performance projects aim to visually reveal cultural shifts and local consequences of global economic power structures. She remains particularly interested in the effects of the rapid privatization of public space and resources, and its impact upon the vulnerable among us, those most affected by the decisions those in power make for them.
She currently lives and works near Detroit.
